VOLUME 2 • NUMBER 5 • May 2016

Seniors and Older Americans Month

Every year in May, we celebrate Older Americans Month. This special time offers the opportunity for people of all ages to honor the many contributions seniors have made, raise awareness about the important issues seniors face, and support seniors on their quest to stay happy and healthy. This year's theme, "Blaze a Trail," spotlights the many ways seniors can choose to enjoy exciting and vibrant lives. Here are a few ways these trailblazing seniors are able to live with passion, significance, and joy:

  • Maintaining a healthy diet and regular physical activity.
  • Getting involved in community groups, gatherings, and events.
  • Practicing lifelong learning by enrolling in a class or workshop.
  • Nurturing long-term relationships with family and friends.
  • Sharing stories and life experiences with someone younger.
  • Putting their unique talents and skills to use by teaching others.
  • Trying out activities, hobbies, and second careers that interest them.
  • Protecting themselves against fraud and making legal plans for the future.

A Message from Dr. Marco
Dr. Noah Marco, Chief Medical Officer
Healthy aging is a lifelong process. By focusing on Older Americans in the month of May, we are promoting the inclusion, engagement, and wellness of one of our nation's most under-appreciated and often ignored age groups. When people of all ages work to protect and support seniors, they are able to get involved, give back, and make a positive impact on the greater community. Seniors who contribute to enhancing the lives of others enjoy the benefits of increased confidence, enhanced health, a more positive outlook, and the feeling of having the power to make a difference.
