Healthy Snacking and SeniorsMaintaining a healthy, balanced diet can be a difficult task for people of all
ages. With temptation around every corner, it's completely normal to feel the urge
to snack on unhealthy food. There are several ways you can modify healthier foods
to more closely match the flavors and textures of what you are craving. The food
you snack on should be fulfilling and have as much nutritional value as a miniature
version of a real meal. These mini-meals should provide you with enough energy to
sustain you for the next 2-3 hours.
Here are some helpful snack ideas:

Plain, unsweetened Greek yogurt topped with berries or granola
Whole grain, low-fat crackers with light spreadable cheese
Halved cherry tomatoes with goat cheese and basil
Brown rice with black beans and bell peppers
Hummus with baby carrots and broccoli
Half an avocado filled with cottage cheese
Cinnamon and nutmeg spiced baked apples
Sliced fruit and celery with nut butter or a light yogurt dip

						| Start on your journey to health by taking the first step
towards a nutritious, well-balanced diet. Try supplementing your everyday meals
with healthy snacks using the suggestions above. These measures have one unique
thing in common—any person of any age can make these changes. The steps are not
expensive or difficult to take, and even modest health improvements will make a
big difference. When you make the choice to replace the unhealthy snacks you want
with the healthy snacks your body needs, you'll notice an incredible improvement
in your mood, attitude, productivity, and energy levels. This new lifestyle will
even make it easier to maintain a healthy body weight. What's more, regularly swapping
out junk food for healthier options can boost your immune system and help protect
you from illness, disease, and other health problems.
